Introduction

A school is an educational institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students under the direction of teachers. Most countries have systems of formal education, which is sometimes compulsory. In these systems, students progress through a series of schools. The names for these schools vary by country (discussed in the Regional terms section below) but generally include primary school for young children and secondary school for teenagers who have completed primary education. An institution where higher education is taught is commonly called a university college or university.

In addition to these core schools, students in a given country may also attend schools before and after primary (elementary in the U.S.) and secondary (middle school in the U.S.) education. Kindergarten or preschool provide some schooling to very young children (typically ages 3–5). University, vocational school, college or seminary may be available after secondary school. A school may be dedicated to one particular field, such as a school of economics or dance. Alternative schools may provide nontraditional curriculum and methods. ( Full article...)

Caulfield Grammar School is an independent, co-educational, Anglican, International Baccalaureate, day and boarding school, located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1881 as a boys' school, Caulfield Grammar began admitting girls exactly one hundred years later. The school amalgamated with Malvern Memorial Grammar School (MMGS) in 1961, with the MMGS campus becoming Malvern Campus.

Caulfield Grammar has three-day campuses in Victoria, Caulfield (Years 7–12), Wheelers Hill (Kindergarten–Year 12), and Malvern House (Kindergarten–Year 6). It has an outdoor education campus at Yarra Junction, and a student centre in Nanjing, China where the Year 9 internationalism programme is conducted. Caulfield Grammar is the only Melbourne-based APS school to provide boarding for both boys and girls, with 95 boarding students, and is the second largest school in Victoria, currently catering for 3,315 students. The Royal College of Colombo (commonly known as Royal College) was founded in 1835 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is a National School and provides both primary and secondary education. It is considered to be the leading Public School in Sri Lanka, producing the first Executive President of Sri Lanka, the last Sultan of the Maldives and also three Prime Ministers.

1887 – The first public secondary school in Thailand, Suankularb Wittayalai School, is established by King Chulalongkorn.

1996 – The Dunblane massacre, a multiple murder-suicide in which sixteen children and one adult are killed, occurs at Dunblane Primary School in the Scottish town of Dunblane. It remains the deadliest single targeted mass homicide on children in the history of the United Kingdom.

18th

1937 – A natural gas leak causes an explosion, destroying the New London School of the city of New London, Texas. The disaster kills in excess of 295 students and teachers, making it the worst catastrophe to take place in a U.S. school building.

Reverend Canon Percy Umfreville Henn (21 January 1865 – 25 February 1955) was a clergyman and teacher in England and later Western Australia. He is best known for his time as Headmaster at Guildford Grammar School and later for the building of the Chapel of SS. Mary and George.

Henn gained his BA in 1887 and MA in 1890 from Worcester College at Oxford University. He taught at various schools until 1900, when he became a missionary in Western Australia in country towns. In Western Australia Henn married Jean Elliott and had four children. After further religious work in regional WA, he moved to Guildford, Western Australia and became a leading force behind Guildford Grammar School's Guildford Grammar School Chapel and preparatory school. He died in 1955 at age 90. ( Full article...)
